Families of crane accident victims file lawsuit
|
As of this week, the families of two men who were killed in last year's NYC crane collapse filed a lawsuit against the crane company and the city.
Last May, Ramadem Kurtaj and Donald Leo were killed when a 200 ft. crane fell while being used in the construction of an apartment building. The crane crashed into a 23-story building across the street. A third construction worker was severely injured, but survived.
The accident occurred just one day after the city reversed a rule mandating that crane jumps- raising the crane- had to be supervised by inspectors. It was the second major accident that happened in NYC in three months.
In the suits, the families alleged that the accidents demonstrated the lack of safety measures taken by the city if it allowed New York Crane and Equipment Corp. to put a defective 200-foot crane into service.
