Pedestrian injured after falling 15 feet through metal grate
|
| A pedestrian in Maryland was rescued by city firefighers earlier this month after falling through a metal grate on the street, sustaining minor injuries.
Police investigation has not revealed the cause behind the grate collapse at of yet, but initial reports indicate that the pedestrian was walking on a downtown side walk when a grate gave way, causing him to plummet 15 feet below the street. He was trapped there for 30 minutes, and after the rescue, EMS transported him to a local Shock Trauma Center for medical care.
According to reports, the grate was more than 30 years old and its maintenance was the responsibility of the building owner at that address. Because of the permit contracts, however, Baltimore City is not liable for personal injury resulting from street grates.
In this situation, the building owner could be legally responsible for injuries sustained on his property. If you were injured in an accident on person's property, either public or private, it is important you contact a Premises Liability Attorney to see whether you have a claim for compensation.
