Mid-October Traffic Crashes Result in Numerous Missouri Fatalities

Friday, October 13th

Johnson County

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol, two men were killed in Johnson County when the GMC truck in which they were traveling left the roadway and struck a culvert and overturned. The men, a 40 year-old man from Leeton, MO and a 41 year-old man from Warrensburg, MO were both pronounced dead at the scene. Neither were wearing seat belts according to the report.

The MSHP report said both men passed, however, other news reporting states the Warrensburg man was flown to Research in Kansas City with serious injuries.

Saturday, October 14th

St. Charles County- One Vehicle Crash

A one-vehicle crash resulted in the death of a 31 year-old St. Louis man when the Pontiac G6 he was driving traveled off the side of the roadway before overturning and ejecting the driver. The crash took place on Highway 370 Ext Ramp to New Town Boulevard at approximately 2 a.m.

Phelps County-Mutli-Vehicle Crash

At approximately 3 p.m. on Highway 63, 4 miles north of Edgar Spring, a 18 year-old driver of a Chevy Malibu failed to stop and crashed into a Ford F250 pickup that was stopped due to construction. The Ford pickup then struck a Toyota Rav 4 also stopped due to construction. Both the Malibu and the Ford pick up traveled off the left side of the roadway. The 18 year-old Chevy driver was killed. The driver of the Ford pickup was reported as having moderate injuries.

Boone County- ATV Incident

A 12 year-old Sedalia youth was killed when he lost control of an ATV on 150 E. Peabody Road, Fingerlakes State Park.

Butler County – Single Vehicle, Multiple Fatalities

Three teenagers were killed and one seriously injured when the Camaro driven by a 16 year-old Poplar Bluff youth crossed the center of the roadway, ran off the left side of the roadway and struck a tree around 10 p.m. on Route W, 1 mile north of Poplar Bluff. Two occupants, a 16 year old female and a 14 year-old male were killed. A 14 year-old male, also from Poplar Bluff was taken to Memphis to the hospital with serious injuries. The crash occurred around 10 p.m.

Sunday, October 15th

Nodaway County- Motorcycle Crash

A 28 year-old Burlington Junction, MO man was killed when his Honda CVR 600 motorcycle failed to negotiate a curve, traveled off the north side of the roadway, struck and embankment, overturned and ejected the rider. The crash occurred on US 136, 2 miles west of Burlington Junction at approximately 2:30 a.m.

Washington County- Two-Vehicle Crash

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, the driver of a Chevy Cruz traveled into the path of a Jeep Cherokee. The Chevy struck the left side of the Cherokee. The driver of the Chevy, a 54 year-old St. Louis woman was killed and her 54 year-old passenger was taken via air lift to Mercy Hospital in St. Louis. The 32 year-old Bonne Terre female driver of the Cherokee was listed as having minor injuries while her 14 year old female passenger sustained moderate injuries. The crash occurred around Noon on Highway 47 at Route E.

Fatal Weekend

Road fatalities are always traumatic, but this mid-October weekend saw the loss of several very young lives which is always horrific. The families and friends of those killed or injured in these crashes will probably need legal assistance.
