In Branson, Missouri, City leaders have  utilized humor as a way to remind drivers to follow the law.

They erected a stop sign that reads, “Really, you gotta stop”.  Branson Chief Ted Martin said it’s a humorous approach to a serious problem as the fire department has responded to many crashes at the Gretna Road and Wildwood Driver intersection over the years.

Failure to Stop

Intersection accidents in St Louis are frequently caused by drivers failing to yield or stop. Often, the actual stop sign is not viewed as seriously as a “red light signal”, however, a stop sign demands that you bring your vehicle to a complete STOP.  The “stop sign” may sometimes be seen as a nuisance for some drivers, but the purpose is safety.   Some drives may do a drive-thru type of stop where they just tap their brakes.  Failing to stop can create many problems.

Issue of Safety Not Nuisance

As you would expect, stop signs are put in place for safety.  Any place in the roadway where traffic may merge or intersect, stop signs are critical. As well, it is critical that you actually STOP at those signs. That extra couple of seconds that you use to stop increases your visibility and also slows your vehicle down.  By adding those couple of seconds, you are more likely to see another car. As well, if you come to a complete stop, you don’t have to worry about hitting the brakes to avoid another car because you are NOT in motion.

Responsible Driving Means Following All Road Rules

Branson officials indicated there have been many minor injury crashes at that intersection and one fatality.  Hopefully, the humorous sign has and will continue to be noteworthy enough to cause more drivers to come to a complete stop. Unfortunately, failing to yield and failure to stop can result in very serious injury and fatalities.  Failure to follow road rules is a common driver error and sometimes just a poor driving choice.  Drivers sometimes simply chose to Not stop at a stop sign or choose to run a red light.

Do I Need An Attorney?

If you have been involved in a motor vehicle accident, you may wonder if you need a car accident attorney. In theory, the insurance company would take care of your property damage and personal damages, however, that does not always happen.

If you have an injury that is going to require medical treatment, then you may need an attorney. If you are not physically hurt, then you probably do not need a personal injury attorney. At The Cagle Law Firm, we represent those who are hurt in crashes.  Also, if someone is alleging the crash is your fault, you may need an attorney. If you have been driving under the influence of alcohol or other mind-altering substances, you will probably need to contact a criminal defense attorney.
