Car Crashes Claim Lives Over the Weekend

So far this year there has been an 11% increase in road fatalities. Since January 1, 2015, there have been 117 road fatalities and 17 so far this month. Last year at this time, there were 105 fatalities for the month. In 2014, there were a total of 766 road fatalities which was higher than 2013 with 757 fatalities. However, in 2012, the end of year road fatalities was higher at 826.
One Killed Near Brighton, Missouri, Polk County
A 31 year-old man from Springfield, Missouri was killed in a wrong-way crash with a semi-truck on Missouri Highway 13 and Missouri Highway 215 near Brighton, Missouri. The Polk County car crash occurred around 5 p.m. last Friday night. The Missouri State Highway Patrol (MSHP) said the driver of the car was driving a 1995 Ford Tauras and troopers say he was not wearing a seat belt. Witnesses said the Tauras was going south in the northbound lanes for more than a mile and other vehicles had to swerve to miss him before he collided with a truck. The intersection of Missouri Highway 215 and Missouri Highway 13 in the southern part of Polk County has seen quite a few crashes over the years. At this time, it is unknown why the 31 year old man was driving in the wrong direction.
Two People Killed in Head-On Crash, McDonald County
The MSHP said two people were killed in a head-on crash just before 11 a.m. last Thursday when a pickup truck collided with a car at a curve on Missouri 59 in McDonald County. The victims were a female 28 year-old driver of Pineville, MO and a male 27 year-old passenger of Sebastian, FL. The patrol said a 7 year old boy riding in the car was flown to a Springfield hospital with serious injuries.
Illinois Woman Dies in Wrong-Way Crash in St. Louis, MO
Authorities say that a southwestern Illinois woman was killed after her vehicle ran off a Missouri highway last Saturday morning. The MSHP said the 81 year-old woman was driving in the wrong direction on Interstate 255 when the crash occurred in south St. Louis County. Police say that her car went off the road, struck a fence and went airborne before hitting an embankment.
Fatal Crash in Ralls County, MO
The MSHP said a 28 year-old woman of New London was killed after her car ran off the Highway south of Hannibal, MO. The crash occurred around 3 p.m. and the driver was not wearing a seatbelt when she ran off the roadway. The crash occurred approximately one mile east of Highway 61. Authorities have not released any information about what may have cause her to run off the roadway and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
Pedestrian Killed at U.S. 67, St. Louis County
According to the Missouri State Patrol crash report, a 50 year old man of St. Ann, MO was struck and killed by a vehicle that was traveling northbound on U.S. 67. The pedestrian was in a marked crosswalk walking eastbound on U.S 67, north of Whitehall Manor Drive. The vehicle that struck the man in the pedestrian accident left the scene of the crash. The 50 year old man was pronounced dead at the scene. In each of these tragic incidents, someone lost their life and others were seriously injured.
