Construction Workers Call for Safer Conditions After Deadly Accident
Posted on June 25th, 2009 by Zane Cagle
Days after another fatal construction accident took the lives of three men in Austin, TX, a group of construction workers gathered outside City Hall, bringing with them one pair of boots for each of the 142 men and women who died in 2007. According to a report from the Workers Defense Project in Austin, more workers died in Texas that year than in any other state. Now, this demonstration symbolizes the need for better working conditions on-site and on the roads. From workers falling from high-rise buildings or scaffolds hundreds of feet in the air, the message they want to send is clear: do more to keep us safe.
