A Framington man was killed by a drunk driver according to the Missouri Highway Patrol in St. Francois County over the weekend. The 59 year-old Farmington man was riding a Yamaha motorcycle south on Route D when another driver pulled out in front of him. The man’s motorcycle hit the side of the drunk driver’s car and the man was thrown from his motorcycle. The motorcyclist injuries were catasphrophic and he died at the scene. The drunk driver was taken to the hospital but was not injured. She was arrested and now faces a felony involuntary manslaughter charge.
While criminal charges may follow against the driver and or passengers, there are also civil suit possibilities regarding wrongful death. Another possible claim is property damage. Families can file a suit for wrongful death due to the negligence of the drivers in this type of situation. It is important for injured parties to seek legal counsel to ensure they are getting the maximum compensation they deserve.
