Labor Day weekend is usually celebrated as the last long weekend of summer resulting in higher traffic volume on the intestates and waterways.

This weekend saw an increase in water-related fatalities and also many car crashes.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, nearly 200 people were involved in 96 car crashes since Friday night when the counting period started.

Car Crashes in Missouri

imagesThere have been at least 550 deaths on state roads this year which is 60 more than compared with the same time in 2014 in Missouri.

Yesterday, there were multiple crashes that tied up Interstate 44 for much of the day.  In Halltown, Missouri there were as many as 20 separate weather-related crashes on a short stretch of Interstate 44. The first crash occurred at Mile Marker 58 around 4:40 p.m. on Monday, Labor Day. Immediately following, by other crashes as traffic was trying to slow down due to the heavy rain downpour.  In total, there were 20 crashes between mile markers 58 and 63, blocking both East and West-bound lanes.

According to the MO Highway Patrol, there were between 40 and 50 different vehicles including semi-trucks involved in the crashes. Officers said that most of the injures were minor in nature but that two drivers were treated for serious injuries.

Boat Crashes

At least 10 people are recovering from six boat crashes. There were two drowning’s also reported in the state including the death of a 30 year old Jefferson City man who drowned in the Osage River.

Comparably, in 2014, there were no drowning’s the same weekend, but this last weekend saw a double in the number of this year’s boating crashes.

If Injured in a Car Crash

If you have been injured in a car crash in the state of Missouri or Illinois, you may need an expert personal injury attorney. Recovering from a car crash can be an ordeal.  You primary goal after a crash is to seek medical treatment and be able to focus solely on physical recovery. However, after a car crash, there seem to be so many issues with which to deal.  You are having to figure out if your car is totaled and if not, you have to take care of repairs.  Just communicating with the insurance companies on the property damage alone can be time consuming.  Factor in injuries and it can become an overwhelming experience.

Allow our attorneys to take some of that grief off of your plate so to speak.  Our attorneys are available seven days a week and many of your initial questions we can answer over the phone.  It costs nothing to ask questions and you SHOULD ask questions before you speak with an insurance company if you have any injuries.  Contacting an expert car accident attorney may save you a lot of time and frustration down the road.
