Increased Number of Accidents Raise Caution by Motorcyle Experts for Missouri and Illinois Riders
Posted on March 21st, 2011 by Zane Cagle
Safety experts are urging caution and motorcycle safety after an area experienced three motorcycle accidents. A 57-year old man died in a motorcycle and truck collision, the truck was a Jeep. Also, a 31-year old man was killed after his motorcycle crashed into a pickup truck. Less than a week later, a 38-year old motorcyclist crashed into a tree and was rushed to the hospital. Two deaths and a critical injury were not good for motorcycle statistics for early spring. Not to mention the tragedy and grief these deaths and injuries brought to these individual’s families.
David Dickson of Classic Harley-Davidson gave a few safety suggestions:
- “Wear reflective clothing and position yourself in a lane that you are most visible, not hidden behind a car or riding on a bumper in front of you”
- Keep your speed down
- Wear a helmet. Dickson said, “Anytime we can protect our head from hitting the ground, or hitting something else, its’ definitely a plus….It’s a lifesaving piece of equipment”
- Taking a motorcycle safety class is helpful as well to re-educate yourself on motorcycle safety.
Warm spring weather has many anxious to get out their motorcycles and enjoy the beautiful weather. Riding motorcycles can be extremely fun and a very freeing experience. However, if motorcyclists are not ever-vigilant about being visible to other vehicles, a wonderful afternoon can result in tragedy. This attorney has blogged many times previously about motorcycle accidents and safety.
