Posted on January 2nd, 2011 by Zane Cagle

Two pedestrians were struck by cars in the city of St. Louis last week. On Saturday, a man was walking on Highway 40 near South 14th Street when he was struck by a car driven by a 24-year old man. The pedestrian accident occurred around 2:45 a.m. According STL Today, the driver of the vehicle stayed at the accident scene unlike the driver of a car that hit a woman on Thursday on South Jefferson near Hickory Street. The woman was the victim of a hit and run accident and died at the scene of the accident. Investigators are still trying to locate the driver of the vehicle in the fatal crash.

Pedestrian and auto accidents occur more frequently in metropolitan areas such as St. Louis due to the increased number of people who walk short distances from parking lots to their offices, walk from centralized parking to offices, or simply walk their short commutes from home to office.

Pedestrian victims of car accidents are usually very serious if not fatal as they do not have the protection of a car around them when a vehicle strikes them. Pedestrians are very vulnerable when struck by any moving vehicle.
