A wrongful death suit filed on behalf of an 82-year-old woman was settled last week for $65,000, with the damages divided among the woman’s children and estate. The May 11 accident occurred when the victim was attempting to walk across the street at a stop sign intersection. She walked in front of a pickup truck who was stopped at the stop sign, but the driver did not see her and continued to make a right turn. The driver claimed he had let several cars pass before he pulled out, but did so right when the pedestrian was in front of his vehicle. The driver was not charged, but his insurance carrier settled with the family in the civil proceedings.
