St. Charles Crash Kills Lincoln County Man

Fatal Three-Vehicle Car Crash

A 35 year-old Foley, Missouri man died as a result of a multiple vehicle crash near the northern edge of St. Charles County, Missouri.

It was reported that the Foley man of Lincoln County was driving behind another car when his Cavalier struck the back end of a pickup truck. The two vehicles were southbound on Highway 79, north of Dalbow Road in St. Charles County.

After the collision, both vehicles crossed into the northbound lanes and the pick-up struck a third car that overturned. The Foley man was not wearing a seat belt and a passenger of the Foley man, a 28 year old passenger was seriously injured.

The pick up driver suffered minor injuries and the third driver was not reported as hurt according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

Common Causes of Motor Vehicle Accidents

While the cause of the above crash has not been officially identified by authorities, there are several common causes of motor vehicle accidents. The number one cause of crashes in inattentiveness. Inattentiveness can be anything from daydreaming to distracted driving.

Speeding is another common cause of car crashes as well. Often, rear-end crashes result from following to close or driving too fast for conditions. Rear-end collisions or clipping another vehicle on a busy highway at a normal rate of speed can lead to disastrous results.

Initial collisions on a highway can quickly escalate to involve other vehicles such as in head-on collisions and T-bone collisions. All of which can result in serious injuries or fatalities.

If You or a Loved One Has Been Injured in a Motor Vehicle Crash….

If you or a loved one has been injured or if you have lost a loved one in a motor vehicle crash, you should consult an attorney regardless of the cause. As a driver in a multi-vehicle crash, you may not be aware of all of the factors causing the crash and insurance companies may dispute or argue the liability or may say one of more drivers is partially at fault. Thus, it is important that you speak with a skilled car crash attorney before you speak with any insurance companies.

Things To Consider BEFORE Talking to ANY Insurance Company:

  • Never give a statement to any insurance company if you are taking pain medication that may impact your memory. Likewise, if you are hospitalized due to your injuries, do not try to make statements from your hospital bed to the insurance adjuster. While you may be eager to get the claim underway, medications can seriously impair your recollection of events. After an injury, most people are prescribed some type of pain medication to cope with their injuries. Talk with an attorney before making statements.
  • Talking to an attorney does not mean you are “guilty” or “liable” for any crash. Many assume you only need an attorney if you have committed a crime, but that is not so. In fact, our clients are drivers or passengers who are not at-fault and they need legal representation to be certain that a professional is looking out for their best interests.
  • Property damage claims and bodily injury claims are different and absolutely do not have to be settled at the same time. The insurance company should go ahead and process your property damage claim, however, your bodily injury claim will take considerable more time. Simply, you may not know the full extent of your bodily injuries for several days, weeks or months following a crash thus, you should not talk with any insurance company about the nature of your injuries other than to confirm that you have some. Contact a car accident attorney right away if you are injured.
