Fatal Crash After Stolen SUV Speeds in Ferguson, Missouri

Suspects Still Being Sought

In a tragic and preventable crash, a 27 year old man was killed when a stolen SUV crashed into him at the intersection of Harvey and Carson, Ferguson, MO. The SUV struck the driver’s side of the compact car, killing the young man instantly.

The SUV was stolen out of St. Louis County and reportedly had five people inside, four males and one female who all fled the scene.  The stolen SUV was speeding eastbound on Carson and crashed into the compact car that was traveling northbound on Harvey.

The 27 year old man was a father to two young children and as of August 25, 2016, no suspects have been arrested. The public is encouraged to call the Ferguson Police Department if they have further information that will lead to the resolution of this tragic incident.

Speed Related Crashes

The state of Missouri has an absolute speed limit law,  meaning if a person is driving even one mile over the speed limit, they are breaking the law.  Driving at excessive speeds not only leaves the driver at risk but others. Speeding does not allow a drive enough time to react to unexpected circumstances.  However, in this scenario one would question is the driver of the SUV was all that concerned about safety when he and/or others decided to steal the car.  One suspects if they are willing to steal a vehicle, then speeding seems like a very small crime.

Stating the obvious—this crash never should have happened as the five people in the vehicle would not have even been there to break the speeding law had they not already committed the crime of stealing a car.  This crash never should have happened and a young man should not have had to lose his life due to the crimes and negligence of another.  Traffic in of itself can be dangerous, let alone
