10 Year Old Dead After Bizarre Boating Accident

Posted on June 6th, 2010 by Zane Cagle

A 10-year old is dead after suffering catastrophic injuries when an outboard motor landed on him as he was a passenger in a boat. The boat apparently ran over some dredge pipes and those pipes caused the motor to be catapulted into the boat. The motor weighed hundreds of pounds. Authorities are investigating how the motor disconnected from the boat as heavy brackets generally secure such a motor. Dredgers pump out the silt from the bottom of the lake and float up when not in use, however, warning signs are posted at every boat ramp. Authorities have determined that the boat was moving at a high rate of speed but also have determined that alcohol was not factor. It is important to stay at least a 100 feet away from dredge pipes and if you do have to cross dredge pipe lines, it is essential to slow down. The 10 year old was a fourth grader.
