A Dupo man filed suit in St. Clair Circuit Court last month against his employer claiming that the company fired him in order to avoid paying for medical treatment. At the time of the accident, the plaintiff worked for a food service manufacturing company and sustained an injury to his left hand on the job. He exercised his rights under the Illinois Workers’ Compensation Act and sought medical treatment the same day. However, instead of compensating him for his injuries, the suit alleges that the defendant fired him for pursuing a claim. Now, he seeks damages exceeding $50,000, plus punitive and exemplary damages and other costs.
