A Florissant teen died in a drowning accident late Sunday night in Lake St. Louis after he jumped off the boat for a last swim and never resurfaced. He and six friends were pontoon boating and were returning to the Woodlands Marina. Officials said the teen’s friends lost sight of him and searched for several minutes. According to officials, the group had consumed alcohol and had gone out on the boat around 10:30 p.m. Missouri State Water Patrol, Lake Saint Louis Police officers, EMS personnel and firefighters from Lake Saint Louis, O’Fallon and St Charles all searched for the missing teen. The young man was found in about 10 feet of water and about 50 feet from the shore at approximately 4 a.m.
Officials do not know if the teen was a good swimmer and are investigating to determine if alcohol was a factor. The driver of the boat, a 23 year old man of Wentzville was arrested on suspicion of boating while intoxicated according to Missouri Highway Patrol. The teen was known for being an accomplished athlete at the local high school in Spanish Lake. At this time, the death has been determined as accidental but officials are still waiting results from the medical examiner.
