Truck Driver sentenced for fatal accident
Posted on August 18th, 2009 by Zane Cagle
As reported in a Maine Newspaper, a truck driver was found guilty for leaving the scene of an accident last year after losing his load of wood beams from his trailer, killing a motorist. While driving on a winding section of road in January 2008, the trucker lost the beams which then struck a man’s vehicle. The trucker claims he did not realize he was involved in an accident until he returned to the scene looking for his wood. He saw the emergency vehicles, but said firefighters blocked him from accessing the road. When asked if his load could have caused the accident, he told officers no. The Assistant District Attorney stated that by not cooperating with the investigation, the trucker failed to “right his wrong.” Although the trucker admitted his mistake in not owning up to his role in the accident initially, he insists he never intended to leave the scene.
