Motorcyclist’s Family Files Wrongful Death in Columbia, Missouri
Posted on December 2nd, 2010 by Zane Cagle
The family of a 34-year old father of three was riding his motorcycle and collided with a Columbia City bus in mid-July of this year. The family of the man has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against the city of Columbia and the city bus driver as well for negligent driving. The motorcyclist collided with the bus when the bus attempted to make a left turn at the stop sign of Burlington Street and Vandiver Drive. According to the motorcyclist’s attorneys, the motorcyclist attempted to swerve but was pinned under the bus for a short period of time. He was later taken to University Hospital in Columbia, Missouri where he died the following day. In the suit, the family of the victim claims the driver of the bus failed to swerve or slow down to avoid that accident. The defense attorney for the city filed a reply accusing the motorcyclist of speeding and not wearing a state-approved motorcycle helmet.
When a tragedy such as this occurs, involving a personal injury attorney is crucial to preserve the evidence and launch a thorough investigation. Zane T. Cagle utilizes experts in many areas to recreate an accident and make determinations that often make a difference in a successful personal injury claim. Motorcycle crashes are often fatal as the victim does not have the actual vehicle as a barrier between the colliding vehicle and the driver. Severe injuries such as brain trauma, multiple fractures, and paralysis can be the result of motorcycle crashes and occur more often if the motorcyclist is not wearing a state-approved helmet.
