In today’s news, it was heartbreaking to hear of a child’s death in a two-car accident on Highway 21 in eastern Missouri. According to the Missouri Highway, the accident occurred on Sunday night in Washington County. According to sources, slick roads where to blame when a mother lost control of her car and slid into the path of a pickup truck. The boy’s mother was also injured as well as five people in the pickup. Apparently, two were injured seriously. It appears that another child, age five was also injured in the crash. As well, the mother, driving a Kia Sorento and the 47 yr-old driver were seriously injured. Apparently, the front fight of the Dodge Ram collided with the right side of the Sorento.
Tragedy such as this is devastates and shocks all of us. Individuals that are seriously injured in an auto accident need legal representation if for nothing else, to be certain that a thorough investigation takes place. At our firm, we involved expert accident reconstructionist and investigators in an attempt determine all factors causing an accident. Road conditions can be just one of many factors in an accident like the one above.
Reading about an accident like this is personally upsetting as I have two small children. Children have to ride in cars………..we have no choice in the matter. But after reading about such a tragedy, your initial thought is never put your child in the car with you—but that is not realistic.
Small children are fragile and auto accidents are the number one cause of deaths and injuries to children. We have blogged about the importance of child car safety seats in the past. Yet, sometimes if a crash to so traumatic, it doesn’t matter how great your child safety is, the trauma is just too much for a baby to absorb. In an ideal world, the child safety seat would absorb the entire trauma, but in reality, this cannot always happen.
Child car safety seats do decrease the number of child injuries and fatalities when used correctly and installed correctly. By talking about the importance of child safety seats, I am in no way implying that the above mentioned child was not restrained properly. If you have ever been in a car accident (most of us have), then you know the brunt force that a small fender bender can have on an adult body. Even after the smallest of crashes, the victims will be sore for several days even if they are not injured. Days and weeks later, if you still have continued pain, then you should seek medical assistance right away for further evaluation.
As a parent, I know the dreadful feeling of looking in the back seat after a crash to check on my children. It’s the first place that you look before you look at yourself and I cannot really imagine the horror of discovering your child injured or killed. It is the worst nightmare of all parents.
If you or a loved one has been seriously injured in an auto accident or 18-wheeler accident, seeking legal advice is such a smart choice. Whether or not you need an attorney, it is always helpful to gain as much information as possible. Quite honestly, not everyone needs an attorney. You only need an attorney is one, you or a loved one has been seriously injured, or two, the other driver is claiming you are at fault or three, a loved one has been killed.
